How Does Emla 5g Cream Works?
Emla 5g Cream works by numbing the skin through its active ingredients, lidocaine (2.5%) and prilocaine (2.5%), both local anesthetics. When you apply it to the skin, these ingredients penetrate the outer layer and temporarily block sodium channels in nerve cells, preventing them from sending pain signals to the brain.
How Should You Take Emla 5g Works?
To use Emla 5g Cream effectively, apply a thick layer to the desired area at least 1 hour before your procedure. Cover it with an occlusive dressing to enhance absorption and ensure the cream stays in place. The active ingredients, lidocaine (2.5%) and prilocaine (2.5%), will begin numbing the area by blocking nerve signals. Remove the dressing and wipe off the cream just before the procedure. The numbing effect typically lasts for 1–2 hours, providing sufficient pain relief for minor skin procedures. Avoid applying it on broken skin, large areas, or for extended periods, and follow your doctor’s instructions for safe use.
