How Does NovoRapid Flexpen Work?

NovoRapid FlexPen works by delivering insulin aspart, a rapid-acting insulin analogue, into your body. Here’s how it works:

Mimicking Natural Insulin Production: Insulin is a hormone naturally produced by your pancreas to help regulate blood sugar levels. People with diabetes either don’t produce enough insulin or their bodies can’t use the insulin they produce effectively. NovoRapid FlexPen provides a dose of insulin aspart, designed to mimic the natural release of insulin from the pancreas after a meal.

Lowering Blood Sugar: When injected, insulin aspart quickly enters your bloodstream. It works primarily by:

Facilitating the uptake of glucose (sugar) from the blood into cells, primarily muscle and fat cells.

This helps lower blood sugar levels.

How Should You Take NovoRapid Flexpen

  • Wash your hands thoroughly.
  • Check the insulin: Ensure it’s the correct type and hasn’t expired or changed color.
  • Attach a new needle: Always use a new needle for each injection to prevent infection.
  • Set the dose selector to 2 units.
  • Hold the pen upright with the needle pointing upwards.
  • Gently tap the cartridge to bring any air bubbles to the top.
  • Press the push-button fully.
  • A small drop of insulin should appear at the needle tip. If not, change the needle and try again.
  • Choose an injection site. Common areas include the abdomen, thighs, buttocks, or upper arms.
Rotate injection sites to prevent skin thickening.
  • Clean the injection site with alcohol and allow it to dry completely.
  • Insert the needle into the skin at a 90-degree angle.
  • Press the push-button fully and hold it down until the dose selector returns to 0.
  • Keep the button pressed for at least 6 seconds after injection.
  • Withdraw the needle from the skin and release the push-button.
  • Carefully place the needle into a sharps container.
  • Put the pen cap back on the FlexPen.
